Portrush Energy Center

The Portrush Energy Center is a proposed 20 megawatt / 80 megawatt-hour energy storage project that will interconnect to Wheeler substation using existing NOVEC distribution poles. At peak output, this project will discharge the electricity necessary to power nearly 10,000 homes for a 4-hour period, enhancing the reliability and resiliency of the local electrical grid.

The project will be sited on approximately 6 acres centered within a 200-acre parcel south of Lee Highway and west of Vint Hill Road.

Electrical Grid Impact: Enhance the reliability and resiliency of the local electrical grid.

Economic Impact: Contribute to the county’s tax base with minimal to zero use of County services. Further, this project creates opportunities for customer savings by reducing the amount of imported energy needed to serve customers and lowering NOVEC’s energy costs.

Environmental Impact: The project has no air pollution emissions and limited noise pollution during operation.

Safety

We are introducing state-of-the-art technology to ensure the highest protection standards, as well as taking industry leading steps to ensure the safety of the project, the environment, and the surrounding community. EPE’s safety measures will meet – and even exceed – local, state, and federal safety requirements.

We will coordinate closely with the relevant Fire Departments including, but not limited to, the New Baltimore Fire and Rescue Station.
